Duane S. Fandrich

Long time Palmer resident Duane S. Fandrich, 64, passed peacefully, at his Palmer residence on October 19, 2021.

Mr. Fandrich was born on June 26, 1957, in Corning, California to Harold and Irene Fandrich.

He met the love of his life, Norma Mendez in Corning, CA and they were married in 1983. Together along with daughter, Yolanda Hernandez, they moved to Alaska in 1993.

Duane lived in Palmer approximately 28 years. He loved the outdoors including fishing, wood gathering, and spending time with his family. Duane's love for his family, generosity and kind heart was an inspiration to his loved ones and friends. He lived his life with integrity and bravery. He was the first one to help out a friend or stranger in need.

Duane is survived by his sister, LaVella Birkland of South Dakota; his daughter, Heather Pitts of Wasilla, AK, and two daughters, Amy and Karen of Corning, CA., all from a previous marriage. Daughter, Yolanda Hernandez of Anchorage and son, Junior Hernandez of Chico, California. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, eight that reside in Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gabriel Hernandez on October 2, 2021.

Mr. Fandrich will be cremated at the Legacy Funeral Home & Crematory in Palmer, this week. His ashes will be shared with both Alaskan daughters and beloved wife, Norma.

No further services will be at this time. Future memorial services will be announced in the spring.
