Eddie Raymond Sego, 69, died with his family at his side Aug. 15, 2012, in Wasilla.
Eddie was born May 19, 1943, in Macon, Ga., to Edward Sego and Hazel (Sumlin).
Eddie originally pursued a career in construction as a union ironworker. He eventually moved to Alaska in 1974 to work on the oil pipeline.
He loved Alaska and worked in the trades until the mid-1980s. Eddie loved to hunt and fish, which led him to move to a homestead near Point MacKenzie, where he felt at home in the pioneer atmosphere. Eddie lived the “Alaska dream” until the late-1990s, when he was forced to move back to Anchorage due to poor health. Two years ago, Eddie and his faithful companion, Cuddles, moved to Primrose Retirement Communities in Wasilla where he lived until his passing.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Hazel Dryer; father, Edward Sego; and his grandson, Jamie Sanders.
Surviving are his daughters, Bonita Spurling and Denise Reves; son, Kelly Sego; sister, Patricia Zanders; grandchildren, Crystal Sanders-Swain, Matthew Sanders, Courtney Sanders, Kailey Christenson, Jordan Reves and Kolten Reves; and five great-grandchildren.
“We would like to express our deepest thanks to all the staff at Primrose, and especially the nurses, who loved and cared for him as well,” his family wrote. “He loved them in return. Thank you to Hospice for your care of him and our family in his final days.”
The family was cared for by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory. A guestbook and obituary are online at alaskanfuneral.com.
