Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

“Buster” Edward D. Fitzgibbon, 60, of Wasilla passed away peacefully April 13, 2013, at his home.
A memorial service is at 3 p.m., April 20 at VFW Post 9365 in Wasilla, on Knik-Goose Bay Road. A potluck dinner will follow the service for all in attendance.
Buster was born Jan. 21, 1953, in Seattle, Wash. The family moved to Alaska in 1957, where they homesteaded in Wasilla. He was the sixth of eight siblings.
Buster was recruited into the Dorothy Saxton Navy in 1970. He did two tours in Vietnam and returned to Wasilla after the second tour in 1974.
Buster met and married Joyce, the love of his life, in October 1978. They have cherished the last 35 years together.
Buster worked for many construction and North Slope companies through the years, retiring from Teamsters Union in January 2013. He was a long-haul road trucker to the core, driving for Lynden, Tote and SeaLand. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working a gold claim. His favorite times were spent with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife and soul mate, Joyce (Peaches); sons, Todd (Veronica) of Temple, Texas, Jeremy (Theresa), William (Jill) and Monroe (Melinda), all of Wasilla; sisters, Carol, Shirley and Cindy; and brother, Michael, all of Wasilla; grandchildren, Alaura, Alexandra, Taylor, Alexa, Eli and McKinna; several nieces and nephews; and his father, Ed Fitzgibbon.
Buster was preceded in death by his parents, M.H. and Clara Sitze; brothers, Kenny and Clarence; and sister, Janet.
Buster is loved and missed by all who knew him.
