Edward J. Shaw

Lifelong Alaskan Edward J. Shaw, 59, died March 8, 2014, at his brother’s home in Anchorage of natural causes. A private service will be held at a date to be determined, cremation services are being provided by Legacy Funeral Home’s Bragaw Chapel.

Ed was born in San Diego, Calif., Oct. 6, 1954. His father Jim (in the Marine Corps at the time) and mother Alice were also lifelong Alaskans.

He lived in Ketchikan until 1968 and went to high school in Juneau, where he remained until the mid-1970s. The remainder of his life was spent in the Wasilla and Anchorage areas.

He belonged to Alaska Laborer’s Union and worked on several projects in the Anchorage area, including Springhill Elementary School, Chinook Elementary School, East High School and Nicholas Begich Middle School. He also worked on the original trans-Alaska Pipeline project. In Juneau, he helped construct both the Mendenhall Valley Sewage Treatment Plant and a phase of the Snettisham Hydroelectric Plant. He retired in 2012.

Eddie is survived and loved very, very much by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Linda; nephews and their spouses, Scott (Lori), Ronnie (Dominque) and Mikey; and grand-nieces, Corina, Courtney, Sydney and Karlie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice; and his brother, Ron.

Ed was special to our family and had ways to keep others grounded. Laughter was always in the room, and he will be missed tremendously.
