Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Longtime Alaskan Edward S. Slathar, 61, died March 23, 2012, from an unexpected heart attack at his home in Wasilla.
No services are scheduled. Edward’s ashes will be scattered at Bald Mountain.
He was born Feb. 20, 1951, to Fred R. Slather and Edna Mable Richards in Gary, Ind.
Edward graduated from Hayward High School in Wisconsin in 1969 and moved to Alaska shortly after, becoming a resident in 1970. Edward was self-employed, working in construction as an equipment operator. Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing and his favorite ivory carving.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Edna Slather.
Surviving are daughters, Maria Jo Brown of Hayward, Wisc., and Michelle Lee Slathar of Winter, Wisc.; grandchildren, Everitt and Brittany Brown of Hayward, Wisc., and Lexie and Matthew Slathar of Winter, Wisc.; brothers, Richard Slather of Seward, Walter Slather and wife Vivian of Webster, Wisc., and Fritz Slather and wife Kimberly of Wasilla; sisters, April Laier of Libbey Mont., and Johanna Dunphrey and husband Lester of Wasilla; nephews, Chris, John, Brad, Marty, Quinn, Fred and Franky; and nieces, Debby, Jessica, Crystal and husband Shane, and Amanda; and many more great nephews and nieces.
