Elizabeth Schmidt (Betty)

Elizabeth Ellen Wynkoop Schmidt (Betty) age 75, resident of Big Lake, AK, passed away March 26, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.

Betty is survived by her husband Larry L. Schmidt, sister Mickey Lloyd (Tracy), daughters Marcia (Carl) Patty, Michelle (Dennis) Laughton, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also, Betty’s stepchildren Brian (Tony) Schmidt, Mark (Ksenia) Schmidt, and Teresa (Jack) Yenovkian, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Margaret (Henderson, of Clan Henderson, Fordham Castle, Scotland) Wynkoop.

Betty was a past member of the New Mexico Mounted Sheriff’s Patrol. In 1980, she suffered a broken neck in a training mishap with the New Mexico EMT Responders crew.

Betty loved the outdoors, was a gifted gardener, loved photography and was a huge supporter of our country’s veterans, having been voted to receive a Freedom Medal by the National Guard Unit her son-in-law was a part of in the Iraqi War. Betty loved being surrounded by the beauty of Alaska with her husband. Above all, she loved the Lord and her life reflected Him.

Memorial service will be held April 15 at 1:00 at West Valley Church of the Nazarene, 1300 Ridgecrest Rd. Mile 51 of the Parks Hwy, Meadow Lakes. A virtual service will be available for all family and friends who cannot attend in person. It will be on the West Valley Church of the Nazarene Facebook site.
