A memorial service for Emery L. Field, 89, of Wasilla will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Wasilla (Bogard Road and Leatherleaf Loop) with Rev. Stephen Shrimplan Officiating. An additional service will be at a later date in Oroville, Calif.

Emery died Nov. 29 at his Wasilla residence. He was born Sept. 15, 1920 in Malaga, Wash. He retired from the Western Pacific Railroad on June 12, 1979 after 32 years as a signalman. He served in the second Marine Division, 6th Marines as a corporal from 1942 to 1945 seeing action on Saipan, Tinian, Tarawa and Guadal Canal.

He held life membership in the Masonic Lodge, VFW and National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Oroville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Virginia Field of Wasilla; two daughters and son-in-laws, Arlene and Bill Hedge of Wasilla and Jean and Chester Long of Janesville, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kyoko Field of Hakone, Japan; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret.

The family has requested that any memorial contributions be directed to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
