Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Ernie Clyde Blohm, 72, of Wasilla, died Feb. 18, 2014, at a local care center.
Ernie was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Everett, Wash. In the late 1950s, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington state. In the 1960s also in Washington, he began a career as a meat cutter. In 1969, Ernie moved to Alaska. He continued as a meat cutter in various locations of Alaska. He began working in 1978 with Carrs in Wasilla, retiring in 2004.
Ernie enjoyed being in his garage, gardening, sitting by a fire, clam digging, fishing, driving his Ranger, showing his dog and processing moose for his friends. He was always known to “get it done.”
Survivors include daughters, Darla Blohm and Connie Cabana of Wasilla; sons, Rod Blohm of Palmer and Tod Blohm of Wasilla; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Doby.
Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla chapel cared for arrangements.
