Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Errol Dean Hamann, 72, died Aug. 3, 2012, at his home in Palmer.
He was born Aug. 6, 1939, in Palmer to Le Roy and Gretchen Hamann. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy in San Diego in 1977. After his lengthy stint as a sailor, Errol brought his wife, Sally, and brood of six children back home to Alaska. He taught ROTC at Chugiak and Service high schools.
After that, he retired to the homestead. He was well known and loved in the community. Please come and share some memories at his memorial service at 2 p.m., Sept. 8 at American Legion Post 15 in Palmer.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Sally; parents, Le Roy and Gretchen Hamann; brothers, Laverne, Blaine, Randy and Dennis Hamann; and sister, Jean Ehrhart.
Surviving are his children, Sandy Summitt, Ken Hamann, Katie Kadiru, Barb Garcia, Connie Hamann and Robyn Erickson and their families; and his companion, Kim Maffei.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Ya Ne Dah Ah School, where he spent his Thursdays at the Chickaloon Tribal Elders luncheons, Chickaloon Village P.O. Box 1105, Chickaloon, AK 99674.
The family was taken care of by Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel in Palmer.
