Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident, Mrs. Esther May (Sumners) Grubaugh, 66 passed away Feb. 7, 2010, at the Primrose Retirement Community in Wasilla.
Per her request, no services will be held.
Esther was born March 20, 1943, to Curtis W. and Ethel Virginia (Chumbley) Sumners in Loogootee, Ind. She spent her youth in Oakland City, Ind., and she graduated from Greenfield High School in Greenfield, Ind., in 1961. Esther moved with her husband, Jack, and son, Yukon, to Anchorage in 1968.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Rock Grubaugh; and brother, Lea Sumners. She is survived by her son, Yukon Erik Grubaugh and his wife, Melanie of Anchorage; granddaughter, Tana of Anchorage; sisters, Carolyn Davis of McMinnville, Tenn., Rita Ward of Winslow, Ind., Carla Woolsey of Anderson, Ind.; and sister in-law, Jackie (Bailey) Sumners of Banning, Calif.
