Eugene (Hank) Leroy Nelson passed away peacefully at age 90 on June 30, 2024, at Matsu Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska. Services will be held on Saturday, July 13th at 1:00pm at Summit Worship Center, 125 W Riley Ave, Wasilla, Alaska.
Hank moved to Alaska during the early 1970’s. He met and married his wife Patricia (Pat) Gomez in Sitka, AK on June 9, 1979.
Hank is survived by his wife Pat Nelson of Wasilla, daughter Athena Scull of Fernwood, Idaho, son Eugene Nelson of Medford, Oregon, daughters Jennifer Brown of Wasilla, Carolyn Stuck of Salem, Oregon and son Matthew Gomez of Camarillo, California, additionally he is survived by five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Hank was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Cooper, father Chester Vining, brothers David and John Nelson and sisters Delores Berry and Roberta Groves.
Hank worked in the woods logging his entire career beginning in Northern California and Southwest Oregon, then finishing in Southeast Alaska.
Hank earned a living working in the woods, but it was his song and story writing, and performing at logging shows that brought him happiness, but his greatest joy was always his children and grandchildren
