Eva Parsons, 65, longtime Alaska resident and Wasilla High teacher, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at her home in Wasilla. Eva’s teaching career spanned 42 years. She taught French and English at Wasilla High for 31 years from 1982 to 2013. Her first love was teaching French. She traveled to France frequently to study the language. She had a passion for opening the world to her students and she led several international student trips.

Eva was born and grew up in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Lincoln High School; the University of Northern Colorado with undergraduate degrees in French and English, and a graduate degree in Remedial Reading for Adolescents. She continued her graduate studies in French Literature in Angers, France. Eva lived in and taught in Colorado, Wyoming, and Alaska.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Parsons; daughter, Samantha Parsons; and her siblings, Joanne Fox, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Vince Popick of Denver, Colorado, and Sharon Sommers of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marian Sparks and her father, Jerry Popick.

Samantha and Jeff welcome Eva’s, and their colleagues, friends, and former students to her memorial service, 7 p.m., Friday, April 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Peck Street and Bogard Road, in Wasilla.
