Evelyn L. Brumbaugh

Evelyn L. Brumbaugh, 90, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Spokane, Washington, the youngest child of Roy and Jean Johnson. In 1932 she married a handsome Navy man, with a Harley; she met through a blind date arranged by her sister. The family moved to Fairbanks from Seattle in 1957. Their life of wedded bliss lasted for 72 years, until the death of her husband in 2014.

Evelyn was an accountant, starting as a teller in a Seattle bank, then Interior Airways, H & S Warehouse and Denali Drilling. She spent many years as a volunteer for the Alaska Academic Decathlon. Evelyn loved entertaining family and friends, at her beautiful home in Fairbanks with a huge indoor swimming pool, or at their cabin at Big Lake. In the 1990s, after her husband retired, they settled in Wasilla, where Evelyn became a charter member of the North Star Quilters Guild. It was through this guild that she met some of her dearest friends. She was also an active member/officer of the Valley Garden Club of Wasilla. Evelyn loved quilting, gardening, traveling and attending GMC rallies in their motor home.

She is survived by her sons; Jonny (Marilyn) Brumbaugh, Jerry (Sandra) Brumbaugh, Randy Brumbaugh and her daughter, Judy Engleman; 11 grandchildren; Rory, David, Laury, Colin, Kristy, Graham, Craig, Douglas, Robert, Brian & Darrell; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. All are blessed to have had her in their lives for so long. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her sister, Jean, and her brother Ray.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Hospice for their wonderful care. A memorial celebration is planned for next summer at Big Lake. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska.
