Evon John, 88, died March 2, 2013, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service is at 1 p.m., March 8 at Anchorage Moravian Church, 3512 Robin St., Anchorage. Burial at the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery will follow the service.

Evon was born in Asvigyak Jan. 8, 1925. He is a past resident of Twin Hills, moved to the Anchorage-Wasilla area in 1979 and was most recently a resident of Houston.

Evon was a member of the Alaska Territorial Guard during World War II. Later on in life he was employed by the Alaska Railroad in the early 1960s and then went on to do cannery work. In the 1970s, he became a commercial fisherman, layman pastor and was the village president.

On his off time, Evon loved hunting, fishing, boating and driving snowmachines.

Surviving are his daughters, Fannie John, Cynthia Greene, Beverly Cano, Evangeline John and Vivian Seal; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary John; and son, Paul John.

Evon was well loved and will be missed greatly.

Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel.
