Exciting changes set to come

Frontiersman

Changes are hard. And at The Frontiersman, it’s no different.

Our post-COVID reality and the increased use of digital platforms are pushing The Frontiersman to provide readers with more content on all the platforms they browse. This means we have to change how we do what we do.

The most noticeable change readers will soon see is the reduction of our publishing frequency from three print editions per week to two.

Starting March 1, the Sunday edition of The Frontiersman will cease. On Wednesdays and Fridays we will be printing The Frontiersman, and nearly every day of the week we'll be updating the frontiersman.com website and mobile app with breaking news, greater interactivity, deeper coverage of more topics of interest and more photography.

As The Frontiersman refocuses for our changing audience, we will:

expand the number of pages in each edition;be able to give our reporters more time to cover the important news of the day;increase the number of regular topics covered — several have launched already, including our new “Schools” and “AK•MIL” military pages;offer a new comics and puzzles page;expand our editorial page content — with cartoons and more letters to the editor;update our design — starting with our new company logo — let us know what you think;increase the use of photos everywhere, and let you purchase your favorites from the website.

At Frontiersman.com, we have:

enhanced the weather with links to real-time content – like cancellations & delays at schools & JBER, webcams and breaking weather stories;added a national news e-edition seven days per week.

In addition, we’ve added valuable services for our readers — and the Valley as a whole — including:

a partnership with Collette Travel, which offers great travel trips for getting Alaskans to wonderful places all over the globe. Watch for trip ads in the paper and on social media!extended distribution to JBER, so service personnel can see how much we value their service.

You'll also start seeing our new mobile newsroom trailer at large valley events. Stop by and say hello, meet our staff and share your opinions with us!

So, yes, change is hard, but it’s for the better. Welcome to the new Frontiersman!
