Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anthony Lyle Hendricks
Anthony Lyle Hendricks, 25, died Feb. 1, 2007, in Palmer. A celebration of life will be on Feb. 10, 2007, at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Covenant in Palmer, 415 S. Bailey. The Rev. Howard Bess will be officiating at the service.
He was born Aug. 4, 1981, in Colorado Springs, Col. In 1994, he moved to Alaska. Before moving to Palmer, he lived in North Pole and Fairbanks.
He was employed by the Black Dog Deli, the Valley Hotel and various restaurants in Eagle River. He was an American Baptist and was a member of the Church of the Covenant. Some hobbies he enjoyed were drawing, music, movies, videos games and fishing.
His family stated, “Andy, loved the Lord, music, people, drawing and hanging out with friends. He was a very hard worker and would give the shirt off his back. His new love, Alicia, was his world. He loved his mom very much and his brother was his best friend. He will forever be missed and will always be in our hearts. Until I see you again, my son.”
He is survived by his father, Joseph Hendricks of Kentucky; mother, Nancy Hendricks of Palmer; brother, Steve Hendricks and his fiancée, Tina, of Wasilla; aunt, Cheryl Milline of Wasilla; cousin, Kevin Milline of Wasilla; cousin, Tina Aubrey and her husband, Shane, of Anchorage; cousin, Ryan Milline and his wife, Amanda, of Las Vegas; uncle, Steve Hilla of North Fork, Va.; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hilla-Eisel and her husband, Bob, of Donnelly, Minn.; girlfriend, Alicia Hensel of Palmer; uncle, Dale of King Salmon; friend, Ed of Palmer; and many friends in Alaska and Colorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucille Hendricks; and grandfather, Sylvester Hilla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Day Break Services Management, 263 S. Bonanza, Palmer, AK 99645.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
Luke Scott Joniak
Luke Scott Joniak, 5, died at his Palmer home on Feb. 2, 2007, of natural causes.
A visitation and service took place at Palmer Christian Church Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. The Rev. Brad Norris officiated and Eric Helmick, Jason Edwards, Les Lee and Warren Ulrich II served as pallbearers. His cremated remains will be scattered at a later date.
He was born in Anchorage on Jan. 30, 2002. He attended pre-school at Swanson Elementary and was a member of Palmer Christian Church. He collected all kinds of stuffed frogs.
His family wrote, “Luke's smile and his eyebrows spoke a million words. He will always be missed by those who loved him. He was happiest playing with his brothers and sister, balls, Native drum, favorite songs, and going to pre-school. He brought joy and sunshine everywhere he went. He accomplished standing at his walker, drinking from a straw, saying ‘ma ma', ‘da da' and signing ‘Luke, a very brave and courageous little boy'. We were blessed he was part of our family. A life that was short, yet a lifetime of memories.”
He is survived by his mother, Linda Helmick; co-guardian and caregiver, Judy Edwards; sister, Brandy Helmick; brothers, Eric, Aaron, Devin, Dillon and Craig Helmick; grandfather, John Clayton; caregivers, Jason Edwards, Kim Ulrich and Michelle McGraw; and the loving staff at Swanson Elementary, Mountain Magic Therapy and Focus Inc.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Helmick, who got to see his first steps and hear him say his first words.

Myrle Necrason
Myrle Necrason, 92, died Jan. 31, 2007, at home in Port Orchard, Wash., with her family by her side.
Known as “Myrlie” by close friends and family, she was the widow of Major General C.F. Necrason.
Her love and faith touched the lives of all who had the great privilege to know her, her family wrote.
She was born in Currituck, N.C., and grew up in Virginia Beach, Va. She joined the Women's Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. She and her husband were assigned to many different posts and traveled to various interesting places around the world. They made Alaska their home for more than 40 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Kelly of Port Orchard, Wash., and Ginger Longiny of Ninilchik; brother, Garland Caffee of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Nick Kelly, Brideen Blazier, Kevin Wertman, April Wertman and Michael Longiny; great-grandchildren, Gryphon, Jaden and Arwen Blazier, and Cassy and Shaelyn Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.
Catholic services were Feb. 7, 2007, at Haven of Rest Chapel in Gig Harbor, Wash. Arrangements were with Haven of Rest Funeral Home, (253) 851-9991.
