FLORENCE MARIAN JONES
“FLO-JO” January 23, 1936-June 14, 2021
Florence Marian Jones, went home to be with Jesus, June 14, 2021. She peacefully passed at home surrounded by her children and her pastor.
She married the love of her life, Fred A. Jones, on May 29, 1954. The family settled in Tenino, Washington, where she worked as a Sawyer on a sawmill until their early retirement in 1976. It was then that they “sold everything” to go travel, meeting people and helping others. They worked for the Army Corp of Engineers as campground hosts in the summers. Florence happily lived sacrificially in a 20’ travel trailer for close to 20 years. In 1997 Fred was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and confined to a nursing home. Mom spent the next 11 years by his side until his final day. Mom was a dedicated wife and took the vows they made to each other and God 67 yeas ago very seriously.
Flo-Jo was full of sunshine and happiness. Her presence always filled a room with light and joy making everyone feel warm, welcome and loved. She appreciated anything in life, large or small and lived very simply. Mom loved babies, her family and Jesus. If you would ask her who Jesus was, she would say, He’s my everything. Mom always knew the importance of being kind. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery but she was known for her passionmaking bread, cinnamon rolls and cookies. Her daughter, Margie said her art of kneading dough was impeccable. Son Walter, made a small fortune selling her baked goods at school!
In 2009, she made the decision to move to Alaska to live the rest of her life with her daughter, Carol and son in-law Richard. She enjoyed going to church, shopping, helping with flowers and spending time singing, playing bingo, coloring and just visiting with folks at Adult Day Service. She was known to all as the lady with the bows in her hair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Jones in 2008; and her mother and brother.
Florence is survived by her children, Linda (Dan) Pace of Houston, AK, Walter (Gail) Jones of Sacramento, CA, Margaret (Curt) Ross, of Colman, SD, and Carol (Richard) Dortland of Wasilla, AK; sister, Thea Voyles of Yakima, WA; and several grand-children and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for August 14, 2021, 2 pm, at Sunny Knik Chapel. Celebration of life to follow in the fellowship hall. Pastor Duane Guisnger officiating.
