Frances “Fran” Mae Slater

Palmer resident Frances “Fran” Mae Slater, 81, passed away Aug. 25, 2008 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

A private family service will be held.

Slater was born Aug. 16, 1927 in Lexington, Ky. She became an Alaska resident in 1950. She also lived in Anchorage for 25 years.

Slater was a devoted homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She helped start the Bishop’s Attic in Palmer and Anchorage and continued to volunteer for many years.

Her family states, “Frances was a very loving, caring and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends. Despite the challenges she faced daily in her later years, she continued to face each day with a positive attitude and good sense of humor.”

Megan Slater said, “My grandmother was a dignified and elegant lady to the end. I will miss her instructions, backed by shaking her cane at us all.”

She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Slater; son Robert H. Slater Jr.; daughter-in-law Daphne L. Slater; and grandchildren Tyler Slater and Megan R. Slater.
