Francis Floyd Merrigan Sr.

Francis Floyd Merrigan Sr. passed away peacefully at home with his family on December 1st.

He was born on October 7th 1929 on his family farm in Burbank, South Dakota.

He attended a one room school house in Gerryowen, South Dakota. Then graduated from Vermillion High School in 1947. He married Patricia Bendixen, his wife of 72 years, on October 11, 950 in Vermillion, South Dakota. He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 stationed in Korea.

He and his wife Patty left the farm in 1956 with their two sons and moved to Alaska. There, they built their home on Raspberry Road, in Anchorage where they lived for 24 years. He worked for Anchorage Cold Storage and on the North Slope until his retirement in 1979 from the Teamsters. In 1980 they moved to the Mat-Su Valley and built their home where he lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Francis Jr., David, Daniel, Debra and Patrick and wife Barbara. His grandchildren Travis, Richard, Keller, Trace, Sofie, and Zackary.

He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Palmer AK.

He loved fishing, hunting, snowmachining, boating, his favorite hobby was four wheeling around the neighborhood. He was an award-winning wood carver. He will be missed.
