Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Fred Allen Pridgen, 72, passed away on Feb. 20, 2018 after a long fought battle with cancer. Mr. Pridgen was born on March 2, 1945 in North Carolina to Penny Mae Hayes. In high school, he excelled at sports, especially baseball. On March 19, 1962 he married his now deceased wife, Bernice Pridgen of whom he was married to for 48 years until her death on Dec. 24, 2010. Mr. Pridgen served in the United States Army for 20 years. He served in the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. In 1981, Mr. Pridgen and his family were stationed in Alaska and remained here following his retirement from the Military. He established and owned Pridgen Enterprise Inc. in 1981, which is under the business name of Pridgen Cleaning Services. Mr. Pridgen’s family shared the following: Our dad, enjoyed life to the fullest! He had a vast knowledge of sports, enjoyed dancing and music, and was known for his baking and grilling. Mr. Pridgen is survived by his three children: Juanetta, Vicki, and Felica. Grandchildren: Anthony, Sherina, and Treneissa. Son-in-laws: Robert and Eric. Step-Grandchildren: Noah, Hannah, Jesse, and Kaycee.
Services:
Celebration of Life will be held on March 3rd from 1 - 3 p.m. at King’s Chapel 1701 Lucille St in Wasilla. Also, March 10th at “The Muse” (Anchorage Museum) from 5 - 7 p.m.
