Life-long resident of Palmer, AK, Fred Mothershead, 55, passed away July 2, 2018 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
A memorial service and potluck reception will be held Thursday, July 12 at 5:00pm at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Palmer.
Fred Mothershead was born the youngest son of Bud and Edna Mothershead on March 12, 1963. He grew up at the base of the Butte and was always seeking a new adventure. He was married to Ann Spies for 12 years. Fred worked construction, maintenance, and operated heavy equipment all of his life. He could fix and build anything, which he often did for his many friends. Fred loved Alaska and set out full-throttle hunting, fishing, ATVing, and snow machining. Fred is remembered most as a funny, fearless, compassionate adventurer who was always committed to his family and his friends, and his sobriety.
Fred is survived by his two children Gerald Spies and Amanda Loosli, son-in-law Brian, four grandsons, and many nieces and nephews, all of which followed him into snow banks, mud holes, and wrestling matches; his sister Lisa Archibald, brothers Brad Mothershead, Barry Mothershead and wife Marilyn, Bryan Mothershead and wife Lorraine, and Greg Mothershead and wife Marcie. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bruce.
Fred Mothershead was a good man, father, and a trusted friend who died as he lived-- first-in, with everyone else catching up. He will be greatly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes
