Lifelong Alaska resident Freda Mae Van Patten, 65, passed away at home July 4, 2015, in Wasilla.

Freda was born June 7, 1950, in Tanana. She lived in Tanana until 1968. Freda attended San Jose City College where she met her beloved husband, Larry. They were later married in Tanana. She received a bachelor’s degree in science from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and an associate’s degree in art. She worked as a nurse for many years and retired from Providence Hospital in 2006, soon after the tragic loss of Larry.

She loved singing karaoke, dancing, and enjoying life. Freda loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life is at 1 p.m., July 18, at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Mile 2, Wasilla-Fishhook Road in Wasilla. The Rev. Ann Whitney will officiate. All who attend are invited to a potluck dinner at the Van Patten residence following the services.

Freda is survived by sons, Adrian, Brandon, and Cody all of Wasilla; grandson, Dylan of Wasilla; brother, Herb of Anchorage; mother-in-law, Diane of Milpitas, California; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents Bobby and Pauline; Father-in-law, Melvin; sister, June; and a brother, Dale.

Arrangements were cared for by Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla Chapel.
