Frederick Douglas Bibbs, Sr.

Fredrick Douglas Bibbs, Sr. (Freddie) left to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on Dec. 3, 2020.

He was born to Hugo and Martha Bibbs on March 21, 1941, in Glasgow, Virginia, spent time in New York, Phoenix, Arizona, moved to Anchorage and later to Palmer, Alaska, which became his final home destination. His home was set up as his dream. He continued working on the home and the land steadily until his death.

Freddie was a very loyal friend, father and fond uncle of many, not only his blood relatives but to many others in the community. He would give you the shirt off his back as long as you took it with acceptance of the advice that came with it. He took his responsibility as an Uncle very seriously. As he lost each of his sisters and brother he continued to nurture their children until his last days. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brothers, Paul and Reggie, and his sisters Christine, Laura, and Lula. Their children were all his children and he will be deeply missed by each and every one of them.

He had established a special bond and relationship with each of his children in different ways. He was most proud of his career in Civil Service, this certificate hangs on his wall, accompanied by numerous photos of his children. As adults we enjoy sharing memories of our childhood, enjoying his skillet pancakes drizzled with Karo syrup, and listening to his favorite Blues singer BB King he played on his record player.

He had very strong convictions about so many things and was not afraid to share those with the younger generations in order to help them to become better in their adult lives. One of his pastime loves was fishing and storytelling some of them more humorous then others.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Ragler; his six children: Dominga (Carbajal), Fredrick (Nothstine), Theresa (Sams), Angelica (Sanders), Rachel (Rohkohl), Lisa (Noble); 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Freddie would never end a conversation with goodbye; His salutation was “Cut your lights on and Check.”

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, in Wasilla Alaska. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at Legacy Funeral Home, Wasilla Heritage Chapel. 1015 S. Check St. at 1 p.m.
