Frederick Hahn Harding, 89, of Palmer, passed away on December 5, 2020 in Palmer, Alaska.
Fred was born in Argyl, Pennsylvania to Bernice and Mackey Harding on April 6, 1931 and was their only child. He graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. He married Carolyn Harding October 29, 1972 in Portland, Oregon.
He once served as the Mayor of Valdes during the Pipeline building days. He worked as a Civil Engineer for State of Alaska in the highway department in Valdes then Fish & Game in Anchorage. He retired from the State of Alaska after 25 years of service. He was part of the crew that built the Denali Highway and many fish hatcheries around the state. He also retired from Alyeska Pipeline working at Kuparuk. He was a veteran of US Army and had served overseas in Tripoli, Libya. He was greatly involved and loved his Family and church.
Fred was influential in local music from playing in Church to being part of a klezmer band and community bands both in Anchorage and later in the Mat-Su Valley. He also taught private music lessons and volunteered teaching band and orchestra at multiple Valley schools.
Fred is preceded in death by his mother and father.
Fred is survived by wife, Carolyn; daughter, Lisa, and Son-in-Law Howdice; grandchildren Howdice III, Joshua and wife Mary, and Noah.
