Fred Lloyd “Fast Freddy” passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022.

Fred Lloyd was born on February 20, 1950 in Myrtle Point, Oregon, to Frank and Betty Lloyd. At the age of 7, with 3 sisters and 1 brother, they moved to Bow, WA. He graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1968 and worked for Thrifty Foods, rebuilt old cars, etc.

In May 1972, Fred met his future wife, Linda Alskog. A year later, June 15, 1973, they married. In October 1974, first son Grady was born.

September 1975, they packed up and drove the Alcan Hwy to Alaska. They settled in Anchorage for 2 years while working for Bilo and running a food wagon and fruit stand.

In 1977, Fred worked for D&A Grocery so they moved to the Mat-Su Valley, Palmer. He soon opened Grady’s Quik Stop, the 1st store open past 6:00pm; open until midnight.

Shortly after Fred and Linda started the first Quik Stop in the Butte, October 1978 Halloween, 2nd son Nick was born. A couple years later, Fred purchased the Butte Trailer Court and opened Butte Quik Shop & Café & Gas. Fred also opened a Pizza Cache, 2 go cart tracks and had 5 Fredeez Diners at once. Many enjoyed entertainment at the Butte diners – Fly by Night Club, Hobo Jim, Marty Raney and many more.

Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, 4 wheeling and snow machining at Jim Creek, Friday and Middle Creek, Lake George and Pioneer Park area. These were the family’s play grounds. Fred and his family also enjoyed boxing and weightlifting.

1986 to 1989, Fred was elected to Mat-Su Borough Assembly for District 1 from Butte to Glenallen. He worked hard for his district and enjoyed helping as many people as he could. During this time, Fred was racing #24 mini-stock at Capital Speedway in Willow, for over 30 years and the last 4 being the announcer.

1995, Fred and family moved to Meadow Lakes area where he owned several thrift stores and drive ins. Fred and Linda loved yard sales together.

Fred was predeceased by his parents and sister, Linda.

Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; 2 sons, Grady, wife Penni of Houston and Nick, wife Beth of Knik Goose Bay; 2 sisters Barb, husband Bill of Bow, WA and Kathy, husband Sig, Bow, WA; brother, Dick of Sedro-Woolley, WA; several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held at the Big Lake Baptist Church, Feb 5th, 1:00pm, followed by a bonfire and hot-dog roast at Linda’s residence. There will be a Celebration of Life this summer at Jim Creek. Date and time will be announced later.
