Galena was born at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Alaska and passed away at Providence Hospital ICU a few short hours after marrying her love Steven Peters by the hospital Chaplin. She leaves behind her daughter Mareena Roemer whom was her reason for living and fighting so hard to beat her 10-year battle with ovarian cancer. Also, her parents Gale and Bethany Fechik, sisters Alisa Baker (Scotty), Carie Squires (Chris), nephew Felix and nieces Elora and Madilyn. Also, the Peters family who welcomed her to their family and treated her as one of their own. Galena lived her life on her own terms and did not want to be treated any differently because she had cancer, which many people never knew till the end. She lived for the camping, hunting, and fishing trips with Steven, Mareena, Cali her furry companion and the many friends who became her close circle of love. We appreciate all you have done for our daughter to help her thru the last 10 years. Galena was known for her work ethic and her many vehicles she owned over the years, we lost count of how many she had. She went to work at Talkeetna Lodge when they first opened as a hostess, later became a CNA, and worked at Providence, then AK Supply for 15 years and finally Alpha Media which she loved. She always gave 100% till she no longer could. We would like to thank the many providers and staff that helped Galena thru her battle, especially Alaska Women’s Cancer Center, Dr. Joni Hope and her staff and the women of Providence infusion center that always took care of her. We will be eternally grateful. She will be remembered for her smile, generosity, and fishing in heels. There will be a potluck celebration of life for her at the Palmer Train Depot on Wednesday, March 29th from 5-10 pm. Come and share her stories. She will be missed.
