Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Gary Carroll, 55, was found dead at home May 27. His dog, Buddy was by his side.
Gary was born Jan. 24, 1954 in Buffalo, N.Y., to Adolph and Florence Carroll. He graduated from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.
After working many years in the landscape and landscape design industry in the Lower 48, Gary moved to Alaska in 1994. He built an addition on his home and a large garage and shop. He then worked for Laidlaw and First Student as a school bus driver. Gary drove school bus for more than 10 years in the Mat-Su Valley.
Gary enjoyed camping, snowmachining, playing guitar, motorcycles, landscaping, and all sorts of mechanical work.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Carroll.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Ron Carroll and Linda Weisbeck of New York, nephew and his wife Ron and Kelly Carroll of Colorado, nieces and their husbands, Beth and Mike Smith of Colorado, Heather and Doug Rudman of Florida, great-nephew Tyler Carroll of Colorado, great-nieces, Alyssa Carroll, Kayla Smith and Jordan Smith all of Colorado. He is also survived by his former wife, Beth Carroll of Wasilla and many friends both in Alaska and the Lower 48.
Gary’s ashes along with those of his dog Buddy, will be scattered at Hatcher Pass where they will join the previously scattered ashes of his mother.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on June 28 at the Palmer Train Depot. Photos of Gary are welcome. Please bring a dish to share for the potluck after the service.
