Wasilla resident, Gary Somphone Vilayvong, 52, passed away at home surrounded by those he loved, on August 22, 2016, in Wasilla, Alaska, due to a battle of cancer. Gary was born on January 1, 1964 in Vientiane, Laos. He attended and graduated at Lathrop High School. He moved to Wasilla, Alaska and opened Mekong Thai Cuisine Restaurant where he also was a chef. Gary loved hunting, fishing, traveling, and drinking with friends. “He was a great person who cared for his family. I am lucky to have him as my father,” Kenny Vilayvong (son). “Gary was like a brother to me and he was always there whenever I needed help.” Lee Ruff “He was a great father and a great person. I am lucky to be his son. He took me on adventures. I’m going to miss him.” Kendall Vilayvong (son) Gary is survived by his sons, Kenny and Kendall Vilayvong; Moume Khounnalath, all of Wasilla, Alaska. Arrangements were cared for Valley Funeral Home & Crematory, Wasilla Chapel.
