Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Gary Wayne Manning, 68, died July 25, 2012, from heart failure at Providence Extended Care in Anchorage.
He was born Dec. 27, 1943, in Austin, Texas. He had his bachelor’s degree in communications. He was in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Air Force in 1976. He moved to Talkeetna in June 1987, then he moved to Anchorage where he lived for five years. After that, he lived in Wasilla for 10 years.
Gary enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, reading and working on the cabin he built on Montana Creek. He was the happiest at that log cabin.
Surviving are his brother, Steve J. Manning; sister; Michelle Myers; son, Steve W. Manning and daughter-in-law Chery Manning; and grandsons, Alexander and Clark Manning.
A celebration of life is at 4 p.m., Aug. 16 at Montana Creek where his ashes will be scattered.
The family was taken care of by Legacy Kehl’s Palmer Chapel.
