Gene Wiehe, an Alaskan resident, went home to be with his Lord on May 16, 2024. He was in his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 7, 1953 in St. Mary’s, Ohio.
Memorial services will be held May 30th at 7:00 pm at Wasilla Bible Church, 1651 W. Nicola Ave, Wasilla, AK 99654.
Gene graduated from Memorial High School in St. Mary’s, Ohio in 1972. His greatest achievement there was being a 4-year letterman for the Roughrider football team as a defensive end. Those years held many memories and helped to build his confidence and work ethic. He truly had a passion for sports and being physically active.
Gene met his wife Glenna, in high school biology class when she was placed in the back row by him for talking. They developed a friendship which led to their marriage on July 19, 1975. In 1978 they packed up their belongings and drove the Alcan in separate vehicles to establish the remainder of their lives here. That life included two sons, Chad and Chris and later their wives, Hannah and Amanda. The last addition was three grandsons, Brandon, Grady and Gunnar.
Gene retired in 2016 after being employed at Alaska Garden & Pet for over 24 years. He was determined to be a good employee and left there in a position where he was over several men. Gene did his best to instill a good work ethic and a role model of what a Godly employee, husband and father looked like.
Gene is survived by his wife and best friend, Glenna; 2 sons, Chad (Hannah) of Big Lake and Christopher (Amanda) of Palmer; 3 grandsons Brandon, Grady and Gunnar; 4 brothers Paul (Carolyn) Wayne (Judy) Dale (Peg) and Dennis (Barb) all of Ohio; sister-in-law Sandi; mother-in-law Juanita Matthews and brother-in-law Randy Matthews, many nephews and nieces. His parents Vic & Marie, brother Roger and brother-in-law Curt are all deceased.
Gene would want you to remember his smile and that you knew he was ready to go because he knew where he was going. Psalm 27:1 “He is now breathing freely in his heavenly home.”
