Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident George James Jenkins Jr., 64, died Sept. 4, 2012, from acute myelomonocytic leukemia at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.
Pastor Ethan Hansen will officiate services at 2 p.m., Sept. 6 at Faith Bible Fellowship in Big Lake.
George was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Harris County, Texas, to George James Jenkins Sr. and Jennie N. Girsh.
George was a heavy equipment operator for Great Northwest, and in addition to living in Wasilla, he also resided in Galena and Anchorage. He was affiliated with Faith Bible Fellowship in Big Lake and his hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Pensri Jenkins of Wasilla; children, Gloria Jenkins (Jim Davenport) of Anchorage, Verna “Vern” Jenkins of Billings, Mont., Joyce Sommer (Earl), Shannon Jenkins and Ginger Jenkins (Kevin Kriska), all of Fairbanks, and Lloyd Jenkins of Anchorage; step-daughters, Molly Smith (Grant) and Malissa (Matt) Lindberg of Anchorage; step-son, Charles “Chucky” Byas of Portland, Ore.; granddaughters, Anastasia Alexie, Kristie and Katie Sommer, Ava Silas, Kianna Krista and Madelynn Jenkins, all of Fairbanks, and Naomi Lindberg of Anchorage; grandsons, Anthony Jenkins of Tyonek, Terrance and Earl “Bug” Sommer of Fairbanks, Kayden Jenkins of Anchorage, Zephania Silas, Tavin and Kaysen Kriska of Fairbanks, and Remmington Smith and Jude Lindberg of Anchorage; great-grandsons, James Alexander and Wyatt Richards of Nenana; great-granddaughter, Kaylynn O’Brien; and close friends, Randy Kangas and Mike Lake and family.
Preceding him in death was his father, George J. Jenkins Sr.; and his mother, Jennie N. Jenkins.
