Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Georgina L. Bumgarner, 86, of Wasilla died Feb. 12, 2013, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.
Georgina was born in Detroit, Mich., Jan. 16, 1927, to George Sullivan and Vera (Jefford) Sullivan.
Georgina had lived in Alaska since 1948, including, Wasilla, Palmer, Anchorage and Seward.
Georgina worked many years as a switchboard operator for Army Communication Systems (ACS). She received an award for her many years of service. She always enjoyed small dogs and loved working in her flower gardens while maintaining a perfect yard. She was also a fanatic about keeping a clean house.
Many years of enjoyment were had traveling in the motor home throughout Alaska and the Lower 48. She also loved the boat they purchased in Seattle and brought back to Seward. Georgina will be remembered for having the traits of loyalty and kindness, and displayed those to all she knew. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family
Georgina was cremated and will be kept at the family home until she is joined by her sweetheart, William. She and William were happily married for 61 years. They will be scattered together on Mt. Susitna, which was the view from the home while living on the hill in Anchorage.
Surviving are husband, William C. Bumgarner of Wasilla; sister, Ruth Swank of Utah; brothers, Robert and Lyle Sullivan of California; sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Cyndi Bumgarner of Big Lake and John and Laurie Bumgarner of Anchorage; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in were her parents, George and Vera Sullivan.
The family thanks all those who have shown their love and support during this difficult time.
