Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Gerald “Jerry” Dean Phillips, 55, of Big Lake and Hilo, Hawaii died July 31, 2015, in Anchorage.
Jerry was born August 13, 1959, in Palmer to Tommie and Norma Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Phillips; aunt, Elwanda Fish; and cousin, Mark Batterton.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia Phillips; children, Coal Phillips and Tessa Thompson, Mindy Phillips, Saralyn and Derek Trimmer, Jesse Denny and Justin and Megan Denny; brothers, Sam Huhta, Bruce Phillips and Bill Phillips; grandchildren, Haliegh, Khaira, Coby, Emmalee, Justin, Brain David, Trinity, Molly, Evan and Bella; and nephews and niece, Tommy, Tyler and Elizabeth Phillips.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was a talented craftsman and builder. Jerry was a loving father, grandfather and husband. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
A celebration of life is at 2 p.m., Aug. 8 at 11359 W. Cattail Circle in Big Lake.
