Geraldine “Gerri” L. Sauer, age 80, of Knik passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on April 19, 2018.

Geraldine was born November 11, 1937 in Belen, New Mexico to Ignacio and Sophie (Gabaldon) Sachs.

Gerri’s family moved to Barstow, California in 1950; where she graduated in 1955.

Later she met and married her husband of 55 years, Gene Sauer. They lived mainly in California for the next 34 years, until making Alaska their home in 1984.

Gerri worked mainly in purchasing for the Federal Civil Service, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed volunteer work at Bishop’s Attic, Mat-Su Hospice, and as Secretary for Wasilla Senior Center Board. She served as a Eucharistic minister for Sacred Heart Catholic Church; where she was a devout and active member.

She enjoyed reading, music, and socializing at the Senior Center. In earlier years she enjoyed sewing, dancing, and playing softball. She had a passion for collecting bells and planting flowers. She mostly loved her family and spending time with them. She and Gene also enjoyed road trips together. With a sharp mind a quick wit she proved that great things do come in small packages. She brought love to those around her and will surely be missed.

Gerri is survived by her loving husband, Gene of Knik; daughters: Gina Sauer of Wasilla; Annette (Keith) Andersen of Colorado; sons: Michael (Heather) Sauer and Bob Sauer of California; brothers: Art (Elizabeth) Sachs of California and Sonny (GleeAnn) Sachs of Washington; and sister, Tina of New Mexico; grandchildren: Stevie Terry, Calen and Jonas Linebaugh, Matthew, Jonathon, Benjamen, and Emma Sauer, Chance, Chevy, and Bluesky Sauer all of California; Heather, Shane, and Nicole Foley of Wasilla; and Krystal Thisse of Pennsylvania; She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren; as well as several in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be held 12:00pm Friday, April 27, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church – 1201 E. Bogard Road in Wasilla, Alaska.
