GERALDINE “JEAN” DELORES MARCUM

Geraldine “Jean” Delores Marcum passed away on July 18, 2016 at her home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Jean was born on May 10, 1951 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Norman & Delores (Cockrell) Hanson.

Jean moved from Barstow, CA to Anchorage, AK in 1975; where she raised their two children, while her husband Roger worked on the slope. Roger & Jean moved briefly to Chugiak, AK for three years, until moving to their home in Wasilla, AK and eventually in 1987 they opened their own business “Two Roger’s Garage; which allowed her to spend more time with her grandchildren. Jean worked for Husky Oil, NPR (78’-82’) and Dr.’s Larry & Lynn Coon (88’-93’), until she retired to stay home with and care for Roger. She travelled every chance she could; she was always the first to say “Yes” to any adventure, whether it was around the state or around the country, as long as she didn’t have to get into the water. It was hard to slow her down. During a family vacation to Disney World, she went on all the rides with her granddaughters; the roller coaster and water rides were her favorite! She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taught them how to play Blackjack, explaining it was for “math practice.” She was especially thrilled when getting to meet her Great Grandson. Jean loved gardening, playing cards & Bingo, watching “Days of Our Lives” and her favorite Minnesota Vikings play football. She enjoyed laughing with friends and family, as well as drinking her raspberry tea and eating watermelon.

Jean was married to the Love of Her Life, Roger Marcum Sr. for 49 years and was looking forward to Celebrating their 50th Anniversary in Las Vegas this February 2017.

Even after being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease Jean continued to fight each and every day.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents: Norman & Delores Hanson; brothers: Harold, Ronnie, and Randy Hanson; and sister, Kathy Vaughn.

She is survived by her loving husband, Roger F. Marcum Sr. of Wasilla, AK; daughter & son in-law, Laura & David Farley of Palmer, AK; granddaughters: Rebecca, Rachel, and Danielle Farley all of Palmer, AK; son & daughter in-law, Roger Jr. & Teresa Marcum of Wasilla, AK; granddaughter & her fiancé, Brittany Marcum & Ryan Story of Lewiston, ID; grandson & his fiancé, Scott Marcum & Alyssa Humphrey of Wasilla, AK; great grandson, Brett Marcum of Wasilla, AK; brother & sister in-law, Kevin & Dana Hanson of Tacoma, WA. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews all over the country.

Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm Friday July 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Palmer; 1151 E. Helen Drive in Palmer, Alaska. Dr. Bruce Rowell will be officiating. The family is asking all attendees to wear her favorite color “Purple” or Minnesota Vikings gear. Jean’s ashes will be scattered in Hatcher Pass, AK at a later date.

Arrangements were with Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home.
