Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Gladys Geraldine Casey, of Grays Harbor County, Washington, born on March 15, 1922, in Elma, Washington, to the late Ada Willis and Dwight Casey, passed away at age 96 on May 25, 2018, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.
Gladys was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Yundt, and her brother, Bill Casey. She is survived by her brother, Carl Casey of Shelton, Washington and her sons, Michael Yundt, of Aberdeen, Washington, and Robert Yundt of Wasilla, Alaska; her beloved grandsons Robert Yundt ll and Joshua Yundt of Wasilla, Alaska: as well as six other grandchildren and her many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all who filled her heart with love and joy.
Gladys graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, Washington in 1941, and was later married to the late Harry Wayne Yundt. She was known for being a hard worker. In her younger days, she packed cargo chutes for the war effort during WWII. Gladys stayed busy and worked diligently for many years to raise her three sons, Patrick, Michael and Robert.
In 1976, she began a new adventure and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, finding work as a waitress. She later moved to Sitka, working as a caregiver at the Sitka Pioneer Home, and lived in a few more Alaskan communities before finally settling in Wasilla. Gladys loved baking, which eventually led her to work at the local Carr’s bakery, baking and decorating cakes for many years.
Since 2012, Gladys resided at Primrose Retirement Community in Wasilla. She was known for her generous spirit, always blowing kisses and giving candy to the staff, sharing her friendship with everyone she met.
