Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Glenna Colleen Welch-Root, 74, died Jan. 15, 2011, at Alaska Native Medical Center, from complications of emphysema.
No local services are planned.
Colleen was born April 2, 1936, in Drumright, Okla. She attended high school in Bozeman, Mont. She was employed by Bank of America from 1971 to 1976, and by the chamber of commerce in Dillon, Mont., from 1976 to 1978. She was a member of Shrock Baptist Church, and she enjoyed photography, beading, sewing, knitting, hunting and fishing.
Her family wrote: “Colleen was preceded in death by her lifelong best friend and husband, Jack Root. They went everywhere together and now can spend eternity together. They will be missed by their family and friends.”
Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Edith Welch of Bozeman; sons, John Root of Wasilla and Robert Root of Spokane, Wash.; and daughter, Nickole Root Stalnaker of Wasilla.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory of Wasilla.
