Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Gordon “Gordy” Franklin Hinshaw, 81, died May 22, 2015, in Kelliher, Minnesota.
Gordy was born in 1933 in Idaho and was raised and educated in Oregon. He lived and spent many years hauling in Idaho and Montana. He went to Alaska during the construction of the Alaska pipeline and was one of the pioneer ice road truckers of the “Haul Road” (Dalton Highway). He lived and drove truck in Alaska for many years, working into his late 70s. He retired and moved to Washington for several years. After retirement he went back to Alaska for one more summer hauling gravel in 2012. After some medical problems he moved into a nursing home in Lewiston, Idaho, and then moved to Minnesota for a short time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, traveling and spending time with friends.
Gordy’s survived by sons, Randy Hinshaw of Wasilla and Rob Hinshaw of Dallas, Oregon; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Eileen Way of Moscow, Idaho; many nieces and nephews; special friend Mary Ann Hinshaw of Idaho; and many friends in Alaska, and the Lower 48.
He’s preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Holdridge; and grandson, Ernie Beltran.
