Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Greg J. Hagen, 62, of Palmer, died Dec. 17 after a courageous battle with cancer at his home in Palmer.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1201 Bogard Road in Wasilla. Father Bill officiated. Additional services will be held in McMinnville, Ore., at a later date.
Greg was born Nov. 6, 1947 to Odward and Connie (Paola) Hagen in McMinnville, Ore.
He enlisted and served his country in the Army. Greg graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelors of science degree. He then opened and operated his own insurance company in Oregon for 20 years. Greg always had a desire to live in Alaska and that dream was fulfilled when he moved to Anchorage in 1990 and became a commercial fisherman. Later on he worked in the real estate title insurance industry.
Greg enjoyed fishing, clam digging, camping, traveling, playing cards, wahoo, and every sport from golf to football to NASCAR. He also loved spending time working on his house, gardening, spending time with family friends and playing with the grandkids. Greg enjoyed life itself.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Joani Hagen. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Shirley M. Hagen; children, Brian Hagen, Stephen Hagen, Eric Hagen and his wife, Jordan Hagen and their three children Riley, Mason and Cameron; Malyn and Ava Anderson, Marc and Misty Greer and their two children, Nicholas and Bradley; Dave and Monica Gregg and their three children, Barbara, Ashleigh and Ricky; sister, Barbara Frost; brother, Steve Hagen; many other cousins, nieces and nephews and other family members. Friendships were very important to Greg and he also leaves an extended family of friends.
