Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Anchorage resident Harold J. Wright passed away June 14, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center of cancer.
Wright was born July 16, 1937, in Salem, Ore.
He completed two years of college, then served two years in the U.S. Marines and 26 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a CW3.
After retirement he also worked as a civil servant on Fort Richardson for 10 years.
Wright was a man of honor and integrity who spent most of his adult life serving his country and family.
He served as a medi-vac pilot in Vietnam and many men came home to their families as a result. He was decorated in combat a number of times.
Having served a tour of duty at Fort Wainwright, Wright fell in love with Alaska and returned here after he retired, where he met his wife, Nadra.
They were married for 29 years, rasing a family between Alaska and Oregon, finally settling in Alaska for 26 years.
A husband and father, Wright will be missed.
Wright is survived by his wife; mother Evelyn Wright of Oregon; sons James Wright, Robert Wright and William Wright of Oklahoma, and Robert Hawkins of Alaska; daughter Alaina Wright of Alaska; brither Larry Wright of Oregon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon June 25 a funeral service following at Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary and a graveside following at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Jacob “Jake” Wayne Foley
Lifelong Alaskan Jake Foley, 60, passed over last Sunday at his Wasilla home. A celebration of his life will be held noon today at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Lake Otis and Tudor.
Foley was born May 22, 1947 in Kodiak, where his family ranched. He lived in various places in Alaska and made numerous friends of people from all walks of life.
Among his friends, he was known for his big heart and pies extraordinare. Jake's greatest love was his 1975 BMW motorcycle, which he maintained in perfect shape for his many adventures.
He was a voracious reader, especially of Alaskan history, and knew many of the people written about in the books. Though a baker by trade, he wore many hats in his lifetime, including being a Vietnam-era veteran, CIRI member, AA member, commercial fisherman and body builder.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends, especially his longtime friend, Pansy Herring.
Tianna M. Tanner
Wasilla teenager Tianna M. Tanner, 16, died June 11, 2007 while on vacation with family in California. A private celebration of her life was held June 20 at her home in Wasilla. Another celebration of life will be held 7 p.m. June 29 at 3261 Sakai St. in Wasilla.
Tanner was born May 27, 1991, in Anchorage. She moved to Wasilla at age 3 in 1994.
She was a beautiful, bright star, had an incredible sense of humor and extreme loyalty to family and friends. She had grown to be such a joy to be around.
She touched all who knew her. One of her teachers, Cindy Bohmbach, refers to her as one of her “Golden Girls.” She truly was.
She will be missed by many and her loving family.
Tanner is survived by her father Chuck Tanner of Wasilla; her sister, Asten, of California; brother Nathaneal of California; grandparents Pat and Gary Wilson of California; many uncles, aunts and friends and her best friend, Taylor Green, of Wasilla; as well as her adopted mom, Christina Mattlin of Wasilla. She was preceded in death by her mother Deborah L. Tanner of Wasilla, who died Nov. 20, 1997.

DERICK W. COREY
Former Mat-Su Valley resident Derick W. Corey died June 2, 2007, at his residence in Hattisburg, Miss., following an eight-year battle with brain cancer. He was 18.
A memorial and potluck to celebrate Corey's life will be held at 2 p.m. July 1 at Elks Lodge No. 1842 in Wasilla.
Corey was born July 28, 1988, in Anchorage and spent the first five years of his life in the Mat-Su Valley before moving to New York and then to Mississippi.
During his 13 years away, Corey traveled frequently to visit his family and friends in Alaska, the place he always considered home.
He enjoyed fishing, was a talented artist and loved to tell tall tales of his adventures.
He will be remembered for his gift in finding humor where most could not, his ability to touch the hearts of everyone he met during his travels and his courage to continue living life to the fullest no matter what challenges he faced.
Corey is survived by his mother and step-father, Stephanie and James Lee, of Hattiesburg; father Patrick Corey of Wasilla; brothers Kennedy of Hattiesburg and Ray, Dalton and Daniel of Wasilla.
