September 10, 1936- July 2, 2016

Many friends and family gathered for a Celebration of Life for Harry M. “Bud” Campbell, Jr. on July 24, 2016, at the Palmer Moose Family Center, in Palmer, Alaska. Bud was born on September 10, 1936 in Palmer Alaska. His parents, Harry M. “Bud” Campbell, Sr. and Theodora Adelina (Kanellos) Campbell, arrived in Palmer in 1935 as original colonists from Wisconsin. He passed away at home on July 2, with loving family at his bedside. Bud became a Registered Land Surveyor in 1968 while working for the Department of Natural Resources, and went on to start his own business as Campbell Surveying in 1971. He was highly respected in his profession, and was a proud member of several local, state and national surveying organizations, and was inducted into the Alaska Surveyors Hall of Fame in 2015, a highlight in his later years. When not working he enjoyed skiing in his younger years, and was an active member of the National Ski Patrol, and an avalanche instructor. He served in that capacity at Independence Ski Area, Arctic Valley and Alyeska Resort. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting trips with his family. More recently, he and his wife, Joan spent five enjoyable summers at Eagles Rest RV Park and Cabins in Valdez. He was a 50 member of the Palmer Loyal Order of Moose 793, Post 15 American Legion, and the Palmer Elks Lodge 1842. He was a good friend and mentor to many, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; sons, Brian (Kyla) Campbell, Greg Campbell, and Seth (Tonya) Elliot; sister, Dorothy Boatright, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry M, and Theodora Campbell, and brother, Wayne Campbell. A special thanks to friend, Donald Snovel, Pastor Kevin Wycoff, and Mat Su Regional Home Health and Hospice for guidance and comfort. Bud’s final resting place will be with his parents at Hatcher Pass, Alaska. Arrangements were entrusted to Cremation Society of Alaska, and words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.alaskacremation.com.
