Harry Wallace “Wally” Valen

Harry Wallace “Wally” Valen, 84, died Feb. 24, 2011, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.

Wally was born July 8, 1926, in Anacortes, Wash., and graduated from high school 1944 in Arlington, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 8, 1945 to Nov. 23, 1946. He first moved to Alaska in 1945 and was in Kodiak from 1945 to1992. Wally was the chief lineman and chief of operations for Kodiak Electric before retiring in 1992 and moving to Palmer.

Wally had a very gentle soul and kindhearted spirit, always willing to help those in need and give his wisdom to anyone who would listen. He enjoyed carving ivory, making Alaska clocks out of redwood and gardening.

He is survived by his sons, Chuck Valen of California, Donald Steven Valen of Washington, Marty Wayne Barton of Kodiak; daughters, Loni D. Valen of Palmer and Andrea D. Wermager of Wasilla.

He was preceded in death by his wife Esther Mae Valen.
