Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Hazel E. (Moon) Bunker-Johnson, 92, of Lebanon, Ore., formerly of Jackson, Mich., and Anchorage, passed away Jan. 29, 2014, at The Oaks of Lebanon Assisted Living.
She was born May 7, 1921, in Jackson, Mich., to George and Marie (Connell) Moon.
Hazel grew up in Michigan. She married Glenn P. Bunker on Aug. 20, 1938. Glenn passed away on Sept. 21, 1955. She moved to Anchorage in the 1960s, where she homesteaded.
She married Gordon Johnson in 1973. Later that same year, she moved to Oregon. She lived in Sweet Home for a short time before settling in Lebanon, where she has lived since. Hazel attended beauty college in Corvallis and worked many years as a hairstylist. Her husband Gordon passed away in 1988.
Hazel was a member of the First Assembly of God in Lebanon. She enjoyed spending time on the Internet and computer. She loved to swim and oil paint, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Glennda P. Bickley and husband Terry of Terrebonne, Ore., and Janet Bennett and husband Earl of Pahrump, Nev.; son, Gerald Bunker and wife Peggy of Wasilla; sisters, Patricia Dunn and husband Leonard of Summertown, Tenn., and Chulita Jurkwitz and husband George of Littlefield, Mich.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn P. Bunker and Gordon Johnson; sister, Marjorie Peters; and brother, Warren Moon.
A memorial service is at 3 p.m., Feb. 15 at The Oaks at Lebanon, 621 W. Oak St., Lebanon, Ore. A graveside service is planned at 11 a.m., Aug. 24 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Jackson, Mich.
