Helen Erma Dewan passed peacefully from this life on the morning of Dec. 8, 2015, at Mat-Su Regional Hospital.

Her life was filled with all the adventure and joy anyone could ask for, from growing up in Galt, California, to finding her soulmate on a blind date, her husband, John, of over 50 years. Helen and John lived in many of the 50 states and Japan during their lives together, but they both agreed that Alaska was home.

Helen attended dental hygienist school and passed with flying colors. She enjoyed her job, and for the rest of her life, “someone’s teeth” was the first thing she noticed. She loved the uniform that she wore and looked every inch the care-giver she was destined to be.

Helen was the biological mother of six, but the nurturer and “adopted” mother to many more. The only requirements to being one of the family was to follow the rules, show respect, and do your chores.

Helen is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Helen E. and Mike Sharon, of Ellensburg, Washington; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Barb Dewan, of Wasilla; daughter and son-in-law, Janice M. and Robert Clark, of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Michael O. and Donna Dewan of Wasilla; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, John T. Dewan Sr.; son, John T. Dewan Jr.; daughter, Dorothy Borton; and her granddaughter, Katie Dewan.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Avenue, Wasilla. Interment will follow at Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. Following the services, a memorial potluck will be held at the Elks Lodge in Palmer.
