Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Henry Charles DeClercq, 71, passed away June 15, 2010, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. Per his request, there will be no services.
Mr. DeClercq was born June 7, 1939, in Moline, Ill., to Charles and Alice (DeCapp) DeClercq. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was stationed in Germany before being honorably discharged. He owned Muk Tuk Chuck’s Meats.
He enjoyed rockhounding, fishing and listening to music. Mr. DeClercq was an organ donor and was able to donate his corneas to Life Alaska.
“He did it his way,” His family stated. “Chuck was a very generous man who loved his family, his friends and his dogs. Chuck had a beautiful voice and loved to sing Broadway show tunes.”
He is survived by his wife, Ruth DeClercq of Palmer; daughter, Ingrid Belding (Leland) of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter, Alyce DeClercq of Sioux Falls, S.D.; granddaughter, Andrea Belding of North Liberty; granddaughter, Calliope DeClercq of Sioux Falls; brother, Frank DeClercq (Irene) of East Moline, Ill.; Margo Sterner of Somerset, Penn., whom he considered his third daughter, and dog, Cocoa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alyce DeClercq, and father, Charles DeClercq.

Mr. DeClercq’s ashes will be scattered in various places in Alaska and on his parents’ grave sites in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
