Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Henry Earl Levan, 59, died April 17, 2012, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. He was born Aug. 21, 1952, in Palmer to Jay and Dolores (Gilbert) Levan Sr.
In accordance with Henry’s wishes, no services are planned. Henry’s ashes will be placed in Lake George, between the Knik River and Mat-Su Glacier.
Henry graduated from East High School in Anchorage. He was self-employed as a heavy-equipment operator. He was a hard worker and was always keeping busy with one project or another, such as cutting and delivering firewood for many Valley residents. He also had a love for the outdoors and loved to fish and go camping. Henry lived his entire life on the land his parents homesteaded in the late 1940s. He loved the land and his independent lifestyle. His quick humor and ready laugh will be missed by all who knew him. His favorite phrase was, “Life is good!”
Surviving are his mother, Dolores Levan of Fulton, N.Y.; son, Hank Levan Jr. of Sitka; brother, Jay Levan Jr. of Pilot Station; sister, Mary Arnold of Fulton, New York; sister-in-law, Neena Levan of Wasilla; nephew, Daniel Levan of Wasilla; niece, Autumn Arnold of Madison, Wis.; and niece, Prairie Wessel of Clay, N.Y.
Preceding him in death were his father, Jay Levan Sr., who died in 1991; and brother, John Levan, who died in 2009.
The family suggests condolences be sent to the family C/O Mrs. Mary Arnold 56 Rowlee Ave., Fulton, New York 13069.
Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory in Wasilla cared for the family.
