Big Lake resident Henry John Taylor, 72, died of cancer at home on Jan. 21, 2014.
A service is at 11 a.m., Jan. 25 at Big Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Janneck officiating.
Henry was born Nov. 26, 1941, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He served in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He has lived in Sandy Valley, Nev., and Kelso and Long Beach, Calif. He became an Alaska resident on April 7, 2008. He was employed with Union Pacific RR from Dec. 29, 1980, to Dec. 31, 2006; he worked at oil refineries in California; and as a truck driver.
Henry was the school board president for Valley Baker Unified and his special interests were wood and leather crafts and sports.
Henry is survived by his wife, Linda Taylor of Big Lake; son, Robert John Taylor of Iowa, La.; daughters, Carolyn Hintz of Wasilla and Susanne Layes of Big Lake; granddaughter, Tiffany Taylor of San Diego, Calif.; grandsons, William Cole Hints of Las Vegas, Nev., Jonathan Tyler Parker of Lake Isabella, Calif., Michael Joel Hintz of Wasilla, Dustin Ray Parker of Lake Isabella, Calif., Johnatan Brett Hintz of Wasilla and Daniel Wade Taylor of Iowa, La.
