• Meadow Lakes Community Council will host its annual Community Christmas Potluck and Silent Auction at 7 p.m., Dec.11 at the Meadow Lakes Elementary School gym. Residents are invited to bring a dish to share and items to sell at the silent auction.
• Alaska State Fair Christmas Open House is from 1 to 4 p.m., Dec. 15 at Raven Hall on the fairgrounds. The fun includes musical performances by Hobo Jim, Ken Peltier and Adele Morgan, performance of an original Christmas story by Yup’ik storyteller Jack Dalton and a speech by Gov. Sean Parnell. Following his formal presentation, Gov. Parnell will read “Twas The Night Before Christmas” to children who will be invited to sit up close to the stage for the story.
