Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Hoyt “Milt” Young, 83, of Wasilla passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2013, surrounded by family at the Alaska Veterans and Pioneers Home in Palmer.
Milt was born in Osceola, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He first moved to Alaska in the 1950s. He was a self-taught power plant operator. He traveled and worked all over Alaska, the United States and Guam.
His passions were reading, crossword puzzles and country music. He enjoyed NASCAR races, bull riding and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He had an infectious sense of humor and could tell jokes for hours.
Milt was preceded in death by his wife, Lola “Joann” Young.
Surviving are his daughter, Katie and husband Ron Boensch of Wasilla; son, Mark and wife Donna Young of Washington; daughter, LaVonne and husband Paul Hammons of Iowa; sister, Josephine and Bob Lanz of Iowa; sister, Dorothy and Phil Gaumer of Missouri; brother, Rex Young of Iowa; four grandchildren, Lori and husband Jason Froehle of Palmer, Scott and wife Danielle Boensch of Wasilla, Marika Young of California and Cameron Young of Washington; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hailey Boensch and Kaitlyn and Grace Froehle, all of Alaska.
Arrangements were provided by Kehl’s Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Palmer.
