Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Hye Cha Pak Reed, 66, died April 7, 2011, at her home.
A mass of Christian burial was April 9 at St. Andrew Kim Parish, 7206 Lake Otis Parkway, Anchorage.
Hye was born July 26, 1944, in South Korea to Pong Hwa Pak and Nan I. Chang.
She worked as a quatermaster at Fort Richardson. She also worked as a caregiver before her retirement in July 2010. She has lived in Alaska since 1981 and attended St. Andrew Kim Parish, where she enjoyed meeting her friends to attend Mass. Her family said she enjoyed fishing and spoiling her grandkids with the food she enjoying cooking for her family and friends.
Her family said she was a beautiful person who had a wonderful and fulfilling life with her two children, and also her two grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and the friends she made along her life’s journey.
Hye was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Richard of Palmer; daughter, dawn Reed-Slaten of Fairfax, Va.; son, Danny Reed of Anchorage; grandsons, Christopher and Cameron Slaten; sisters, Sung Ja Ketter of Chicago, Ill., and Hye Suk Pak of South Korea; and brothers, Sung U Pak, Sung N Pak and Sun Chan Pak, all of South Korea.
The family suggests memorials be made to Mat-Su Hospice Wasilla.
The family was cared for by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
